Italica Quartet

Founded in 1989 by Jose Antonio Santos Professor of Saxophone Conservatory of Music in Seville, with didactic intentions, then evolves towards vocational training. The quartet ITAlICA make a special emphasis on working near composers with the aim of encouraging the composition of music for this type of training in particular and the Saxophone in general. The result has been the creation of about thirty dedicated worksto the group and played by the group of composers such as Cesar Camarero, Robert Lemay, Fco. Toledo Pica, J. Ramon Hernandez, Ignacio Marin, John J. Luque, Ramon Roldan, Pedro Guajardo, Enrique Bust, A. Romero, Jose Zarate, Nuria Nunez, among others.

The components of the quartet, first-class professionals, combining their artistic activity as professors from various Andalucia conservatories, working with relevant groups such as the symphony orchestra city of Malaga, RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Betica, Cordoba Orchestra, Orchestra de la Zarzuela, Orchestra of the Conservatory of Bordeaux, The South London Filarmonique Orchestra and is routinely requested their collaboration with the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra. They have a solid background, recycled continuously with the preparation that confers its international contacts with the most prominent interpreters of Saxophone at present, which leads has assiduously be called by various conservatories and cultural classes to teach courses, master-classes and lectures on topics related to the saxophone: Jaen, Toledo, Soria, Seville, Cadiz, Malaga, Granada, Madrid, Huelva, Barcelona, Feldkirch (Austria).

Among the many concerts performed, the highlight of the Conservatory of Seville, Music Hall of Alcala de Henares, Music Festivals "Martin Codax," Madrid Conservatory, XI World Congress Saxophone Valencia International Music Festival Contemporary Cadiz, XII World Saxophone Congress in Montreal (Canada), various editions of the conference Andaluzas Saxophone (organized by the quartet), XIII World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis (USA), Paris, XIV World Congress in Saxophone Ljubljana (Slovenia) and the Conservatory of Music Liceu in Barcelona. Likewise the quartet of saxophones Italica organized since 1997, a summer course that bears his name, attracting hundreds of students from throughout the Spanish geography.
