Peter Weniger
Peter Weniger, born in 1964 in Hamburg, is one of the most spectacular saxophone acts in the international jazz scene. This exceptionally talented musician started his career at "Hochschule für Musik und Theater" in Hamburg where he graduated in 1984. He continued to his academic studies in Cologne and accomplished a respectable "summa cum laude" in 1992.
Weniger received many awards for his playing. In 1988 he won the "Tonger-Musikwettbewerb" competition in Cologne. A year later he was voted as "best saxophone player" at the Karlovy-Vary Jazz festival in the former Czechoslovakia. He followed this with several different awards, such as the "SWF" Jazz award in 1996. Also in 1996 his album "Tip Tap" received the acclaim of the German recording critics.
To this day, Peter Weniger has released nine CDs. Unter his name he worked with Hubert Nuss, Conrad Herwig, John Aebercrombie, Rufus Reid, Adam Nussbaum, David Liebman, Carl Allen, Dennis Erwin, John Schröder, Jeff Hamilton, Christian Ramond, Lynn Seaton, Rob Pronk and the Metropol Orchestra.
In addition Peter Weniger accompanied several recording session of Jasper van´t Hofs "Pili Pili", Billy Cobham, Eddie Palmieri, Lionel Richie, Django Bates, Mike Stern, Leni Stern, Peter Herbolzheimers RC&B, Paul Kuhn Orchestra and the big bands of ARD, SWP, HR, NDR and WDR. Since 1999/2000 Peter Weniger has been a Professor at the University of the Arts, Berlin.
