Artemsax Quartet
Formed in 1999, The Artemsax Saxophone Quartet comprises João Pedro Silva on soprano saxophone, João Pedro Cordeiro on alto, Rui Costa on tenor and Hugo Gaito on baritone.
The group's aim is to awaken sensibilities and promote a taste for the instrument, attempting, as a result, to create interactivity with the audience through its diverse repertoire plus the unique timbre and sound that characterises a saxophone quartet.
Their interest in technical and expressive improvement of the saxophone led this quartet to numerous Master Classes, where it worked with some of the most respected saxophone players on a national and international level. Artists included José Massarrão, Vicent David, Jean-Yves Formeau, Claude Delangle and James Houlik.
Since its formation, The Artemsax Quartet has performed concerts in many of Portugal's leading theatres and one of its members has performed as soloist with The Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, Invited by the 14th World Saxophone Congress, the quartet represented Portugal in Ljubljana, Slovenia. And, at the invitation of the Camões Institute and the Portuguese Embassy in Bissau, the Artemsax Quartet enjoyed a highly successful tour of Guiné-Bissau.
